Every summer, the Shipyards Amphitheatre in Collingwood comes alive with the Collingwood Summer Concert Series. This series of events brings together music enthusiasts from near and far to enjoy performances by a diverse lineup of artists. Pynx Pro had the privilege of being the audio-visual provider of this series in the summer of 2023.
In this case study, we delve into the unique challenges we faced and the innovative solutions we employed to optimize sound in the challenging setting of raked seating, all while providing exceptional backline equipment.
The Collingwood Summer Concert Series has always prided itself on presenting a diverse array of musical talents. From blues to reggae, rock to indie, the series caters to a wide spectrum of musical tastes. Pynx Pro had the pleasure of supporting numerous artists, each with their unique sound and style. Some of the notable acts that graced the Shipyards Amphitheatre stage included Jay Kipps, The Blackburn Brothers, David Alexander, The Human Rights Band, Shipyards Kitchen Party, Hunter, Queen M, and Kirk Diamond.
Our experience at this iconic venue showcases our dedication to creating extraordinary experiences through audio-visual excellence.
One of the defining features of the Shipyards Amphitheatre is its raked seating arrangement. While it provides excellent visibility for the audience, it posed challenges for audio distribution. Traditional sound setups often struggle to deliver consistent sound quality to all attendees. To overcome this hurdle, our team turned to cutting-edge sound mapping prediction software.
Our skilled sound engineers employed this software to meticulously calculate the incline of the seating area. This allowed us to map out the trajectory of sound waves and strategically position our equipment for optimal coverage. The software enabled us to fine-tune audio settings to perfection, ensuring that every audience member experienced the music as intended. With the venue’s theatre-style setup and its rocky terrain, audio engineering here demands expertise and innovation.
Impeccable sound is our primary focus for live events. This is where our top-tier backline equipment came into play. For every performance in the Collingwood Summer Concert Series, Pynx Pro provided a stellar backline setup that met the demanding needs of the artists.
Our backline arsenal included the Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Tube Amplifier, the Ampeg SVT410HLF Bass Cabinet, and the versatile Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Bass Head. Complementing these amplifiers was a 5-piece Mapex drum kit, ensuring that the rhythm section sounded as powerful as ever. This equipment not only met but exceeded the expectations of our artists, elevating their performances to new heights.
The Collingwood Summer Concert Series is a testament to the power of music in bringing communities together. Pynx Pro was delighted to be part of this musical journey. Overcoming the challenges of raked seating and rocky terrains, our sound engineers have transformed the Shipyards Amphitheatre into a sonic haven.
Our commitment to delivering exceptional audio-visual experiences extends beyond the technicalities. We understand the importance of the artist’s vision and the audience’s immersion. Our backline equipment, featuring iconic amplifiers and a top-notch drum kit, has consistently garnered praise from performers and attendees alike.

“Pynx was one of our Production providers for our 2023 Live & Original Summer Concert Series at our Shipyards Amphitheatre in Collingwood and I have to say their service was stellar.
Their team arrived on time, they were quick to set up and get organized, they were very cooperative with our team since this particular venue location is in the heart of a residential neighborhood and the team was always managing the sound volumes extremely well.
We received a Production Show Advance for each concert that outlined all the necessary details and Mike D’Eri stayed very connected with his staff to ensure we received the best support possible.
The Artists were all very happy with the sound quality and the level of communication they had with the Pynx staff as well.
Kyle Gibbard, the sound tech lead, is definitely a “keeper” for Pynx as he was very knowledgeable and a joy to work with.
We had nothing but compliments from our venue attendees and the area residents.
We hope we can work with them again in the future.”
