Pynx Multimedia has chosen the mighty Canon XA55 for both our video production and live stream broadcast needs.
The camera is a mid-size camcorder that has a full complement of technical features including full 3G SDI out, twin XLR audio inputs (via a removable handle that also contains audio controls) built in ND filtering, a single ring that can switch between zoom and focus, twin SD card storage and of course the usual USB, HDMI, headphone, external power and 3.5 mm mic in port.
The lens is 15x optical zoom, 8.3~124.5mm, 1:2.8 ~4.5 with a 50mm thread. And as you’d suspect is a 4K lens. A 1” sensor complements the imagery gathering system in concert with Canon’s tried and tested Digic processing engine.
There are many driving factors as to why the Pynx Multimedia team went with these cameras. First and foremost, project safety is top of mind, the twin SD card system allows for us to record on two cards simultaneously to ensure that there is redundancy in place for field recording which means that your project is in safe hands on two cards at the same time in case one of the cards has a failure during recording.
We knew that we required a 4K camera for future ready projects and that we would be in many low light environments as we spend so much time in the concert and event industry. (so the Canon was a no brainer when it came time to make a decision.) The camera features a large 1’’ sensor which is critical for low light environments and has an increased dynamic range as a result which will make your finished project look incredible.
Another reason this large 1’’ sensor is so great is because it allows the creation of more background blur to get that pro video look and feel.
