A perfect summer evening, great food, a buzzing crowd, and a full lineup of high-energy musical acts all led up to one unforgettable headlining performance by Canada’s greatest party band—Dwayne Gretzky.

This wasn’t your average small-town concert. The Norfolk County Fairgrounds transformed into a full-scale outdoor festival, with thousands gathering on the open field, ready to sing, dance, and relive the soundtrack of their lives.
With some stellar openers that included Born in the Eighties, Conor Gains, and Bucking Broncos—the energy built steadily throughout the afternoon. Each act brought their own flavour, from synth-pop throwbacks to blues-rock grooves and alt-country twang. But it was clear that the crowd came ready for one thing: Dwayne Gretzky.
When the 10+ piece powerhouse hit the stage the crowd was ready.
The band instantly set the tone—soaring vocals, tight arrangements, and a sound so full and rich. It was a non-stop ride through some of the most iconic songs of the last five decades.
Let’s talk about some of the highlights:
The band started the evening with crowd favourites that ranged from “Dancing in the Dark” to “Don’t Stop Me Now”.
Then came the one-two punch: “You Can Call Me Al” followed by “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” —a showcase of the band’s multi-vocalist finesse and their ability to keep the party rolling.
“Baba O’Riley” was a theatrical epic. The synth intro gave way to crashing drums and wild guitar solos, backed by an immersive light show synced to every note.
“Bobcaygeon” brought out the Canadian pride. The band’s stripped-down, faithful rendition gave the audience a moment to sway and sing under the stars.
The real showstopper? “Under Pressure”—an emotional peak with duelling vocals that sent chills across the field.
“Dancing Queen” had the whole field moving. From toddlers to grandparents, everyone knew the words. The crowd turned into one giant disco ball under the glow of our intelligent lighting rig.
They closed with “The Weight”, a perfect communal moment as the entire field sang along. It wasn’t just a concert—it was a shared memory in the making.

The Stage
We rolled in the Stageline SL100, a mobile stage that’s as reliable as it is efficient. It gave us the flexibility to set up quickly and securely while providing the professional infrastructure a 10+ piece band like Dwayne Gretzky demands. With ample room for the band’s extended setup—horn section, multiple vocalists, drums, keys, guitars, and even a few surprise instruments—it was the perfect foundation.
Sound That Hits You in the Chest
With a performance this dynamic, clarity and power were non-negotiable. We deployed our Adamson CS10 active line array speakers, supported by CS119 subs, for crystal-clear highs and floor-shaking lows.
Mixed on an Allen & Heath dLive C3500 console, our front-of-house engineer kept every instrument and voice balanced—no easy feat with a band this complex. Whether it was the subtleties of the vocal harmonies on “Take On Me” or the thundering bass line of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles),” every detail was right where it needed to be.
Even from the back of the field, fans remarked on how clean and powerful the sound was—no distortion, no muddiness, just pure musical joy.
Lighting the Night
When the sun dipped behind the horizon, we kicked the atmosphere into high gear. Our lighting rig included ADJ Vizi Beam 12RXs, ADJ Encore series lights, and Chauvet Strike Array 2s, with fog machines and hazers adding depth and mood to every hit.
During “Let’s Go Crazy”, we went full tilt—strobes, moving beams, colour sweeps. The effect was electric, turning the field into a massive open-air nightclub. Each song got its own visual treatment, with lighting cues designed to match the tempo and tone of the music. Our team’s pre-programmed scenes and real-time cueing brought the show to life in a truly cinematic way.
Backline & On-Stage Support
We also provided all the backline equipment for the event, ensuring that every performer had exactly what they needed—from guitar amps to drum kits to keyboard stands. With a band as large and diverse as Dwayne Gretzky, gear needs are complex.
Our technicians worked closely with the band’s road crew to streamline setup and changeovers.
There’s no overstating how perfect the weather was. Clear skies, mild temps, and a gentle breeze made for an ideal outdoor concert setting. People danced all night on the fairgrounds. Food and beer trucks kept the crowd fed and happy. And the local community came out in full force, turning the event into a kind of unofficial summer kickoff for Norfolk County.
